ACTIVITIES OF EDI

The Institute is pursing the task of entrepreneurship promotion undertaken by the BNCCI for more than two decades. The Governing Body of EDI consists of representatives of several State and Central Government Departments and BNCCI. The Institute conducts a large number of entrepreneurship and small enterprise development programs throughout the state for different target groups like women, urban and rural poor, science & technology persons, voluntary retired persons, defence personnel, unemployed youth, and members of SHG etc. Special EDPs on diversified Jute Products, Travel & Tourism, Food Processing, Plastics, Pisciculture, Biotechnology, Shoe Making (Open Type) Decorative Candle Making, Fashion Garments etc. are being conducted.

Many such programmes were sponsored by NABARD, Department of Micro & Small Scale Industries, Government of West Bengal, Department of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India & West Bengal, KVIC, SIDBI, Department of Youth Affairs, Government of West Bengal, W.B. Minorities Development Corporation, Directorate of Resettlement, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, Rajya Sainik Board, Department of Employment, Govt. of West Bengal and some other organizations.

EDI also conducted specialized courses on Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme (ESDP) sponsored by WBSCL. EDI also conducted Entrepreneurship Motivation Programme (EMP) in some districts for the registered unemployed youth- sponsored by Directorate of Employment, Government of West Bengal. EDI has been conducting a number of Faculty Development Programmes (sponsored by the DST, Government of India) for the faculties of some Engineering, Science Colleges and Management Institutes. The objective of the programme is to train the faculties so that they can conduct/ coordinate entrepreneurship & self-employment programmes in their Institutes/ Colleges more effectively.

In the last several years, Directorate General of Resettlement, Ministry of Defence, Government of India has been providing financial support to the EDI to conduct Certificate Courses for the retiring defence personnel in Entrepreneurship Development and Small Business Development (with the Netaji Subhas Open University), Travel & Tourism Management (with the NSOU) and Training in Export-oriented Floriculture, Horticulture Business.
